decided that i currently believe happiness is a choice and i’m choosing it.
made a list of things that almost immediately make me happy and require little effort. things on that list include, trying new a beer, picking out my outfit the night before work, sending mail, reading for fifteen minutes, setting a timer and writing for thirty minutes nonstop, making lists, drawing layouts for houses i don’t have, and parting my hair differently.
in addition to my on-going to-do list that i love, i made myself a daily to-do list. i only get to put one thing on this list. it has to be totally feasible for me to complete. it shouldn’t be ‘buy eggs’ (too boring & grown-up-y) or ‘wake up’ (dur - let’s not pat ourselves on the back that easily). good ones are “frame 2 pictures” or “call your grandpa” or “knit 20 more rows”. it’s easy to complete but it feels significant & life-enhancing.
acknowledged that there are a few foods I rarely buy for expense reasons, but that always enhance my meals and make them more enjoyable. bacon, avocados, good bread, blood oranges, arugula, honey crisp apples - these are on the list. i’m just buying them. i’m worth top notch apples and eating top notch apples makes me a happier person.
you guys should do stuff to make yourselves happy. march is really hard.
